It restores your hair and is lightweight. It’s not greasy and leaves my hair feeling healthy.I purchased this product because I have been using a very well known informercial cleansing conditioner for about four months and my hair had become brittle, dry, and was breaking off. My scalp was dry and itchy too. I knew I needed to stop using it and find something else that could repair the damage that had been done and keep my hair in top condition going forward. When I received the products, one had leaked inside the package. That was a little disappointing, but not much was lost and that has to do with the packaging, not the product itself. Now for my experience with using it. The scent is okay. I don't care for the scent much, but it's not offensive in any way. It is certainly better smelling than the other product I've been using and I tried several formulations of it. The first time I used Alterna Caviar Repair Instant Recovery, I used the shampoo and conditioner both. Again, thought they were okay. Nothing special. When I combed my wet hair I was gentle and was able to get it tangle free pretty easily. I had some tangles, but managed to get them out without too much effort. The difference I noticed was after drying my hair. My hair is softer, silkier and shinier than it has been in a very long time. While drying it with my round brush, the brush just glided through my hair. No tugging or tangles at all. I was a little apprehensive about the cost of the product, but my hair needs repair in addition to a quality shampoo/conditioner, so I was willing to give it a try. The other product I was using was expensive too, in cost and in what it did to my hair. I use the Alterna sparingly to make it last longer and once my hair is in better condition, I "may" alternate between Alterna and another quality product that is a little less expensive. I can honestly say though that I love it and I may find it difficult to use anything else going forward. I think it is well worth the cost and I'm glad I took the plunge and tried it.I have only used it once so far, since I just received it today, so this won't really be a thorough review. I like the smell and the feel. I noticed that the shampoo did get my hair clean and made it feel a little fuller even while I was still in the shower. It seemed maybe a little bit dry at first but then when I put the conditioner on...wow! So smooth and it didn't take a lot to cover all of my hair. I'm still waiting for my hair to dry and I used the Lengthening Elixir from Alterna as well as the Anti-Aging Omega+ Oil as I have been using for the past month or more now. My hair does feel pretty good.I would really like to address the many complaints I've read relating to the ease of getting the product out. Due to all of the comments on this, I was already already a little skeptical when I opened the package, and wondered about the caps when I actually saw the bottles. Once I went to use the shampoo I discovered it really wasn't as hard as everyone has been saying. You twist the silver top, turn the bottle like you would any other shampoo/conditioner bottle, and then squeeze gently. Not like, oh I'm petting a newborn kitten gently, and not as hard as though you're trying to choke the life out of someone either. It should be the same pressure you use to squeeze any other bottle. Really very simple. Really. Simple.I might add more or write another review once I have had a little more of an experience with this duo but so far: I like it!I am so grateful to have found this shampoo and conditioner. I have fine, thin, frizzy hair that is about 50% gray. It's been that way since I was 25. So I've been dyeing it for the last 15 years. In the last couple years I discovered extensions. Microbead extensions to be exact. Made from 100% human hair, I can have long, beautiful, thick hair that everyone compliments me on. But they are hard to care for. Until now. You are expected to use Sulfa free products, and protect your extensions, because they are not your real hair, and will dry out and turn brittle quickly. Lots of dry shampoo and not a lot of washing. My scalp was itchy, my real hair felt greasy, and being a medical professional, I was not as confident about my appearance as I wanted. Then I found Alterna. My hair, both mine and the extensions, come out soft, shiny, and clean every time. I can wash the extensions every day if I wanted to (I don't because they take about six hours to air dry) and they would look new 3 months later. No harsh chemicals to break down the extensions, and my real hair is growing like never before. I have soft, long, beautifully styled hair every day. The best part is that my extensions (which right now are 18" blond wavy ones) will last as long as I want them to. They say the average is 3-6 months. Mine have been in almost a year and other than getting the ends trimmed every couple months, are healthy and shiny. Again, so grateful for this product, I just wish I had found it sooner.I've used this shampoo on and off for years after being introduced to it by my hairdresser. This is the first time I've ordered it from Amazon and have a few plus and minus points to mention:It's fantastic for my hair: coloured, fine (but loads of it so it's also thick) with a little wave and plenty of potential to look like a frizz bomb. The day after and it looks and feels lovely. The bottle is awful, I have mild dexterity problems and found it almost impossible to get any of the product out of a hole smaller than a mouses bottom. The bottles are too hard to allow it to be squeezy and the conditioner bottle flew out of my hand, up in the air and nearly took me out when I tried for a really good squeeze. And finally: what in the name of all that is good in the world of barnets has happened to the scent?!? What happened to the lush smelling aroma? I sniffed and sniffed for ages waiting for the chemical smell to dissipate and be replaced with the scent of old. Didn't happen :(I have an enormous amount of hair, but each hair is super fine and prone to breakage/damage. I really struggle to find shampoo and conditioner which doesn't leave my hair feeling dry and brittle. This stuff is like magic. The product quality is amazing and my hair is lovely and soft. I love the idea/styling of the bottles, but the reality is that the product - conditioner in particular - is almost impossible to get out of the bottle. It becomes a two handed wrestling match to get any out and I've deducted a star for that reason. It's probably enough to make me think twice about purchasing again.I was sceptical when my hairdresser first sold this to me in the salon but I can highly recommend it. I have gone from very dark brown dyed hair to very light ash blonde over the last year and a half and the first few hairdressers I went to damaged my hair badly. It was so bad I would brush my hair and look down to find my lap full of broken strands. However, after using both the shampoo and conditioner for about 6 - 8 weeks I noticed that the condition was vastly improved. I now alternate between this shampoo and conditioner and Maria Nila Purple shampoo and conditioner. It is expensive but you just need a small amount (about the size of a 10p piece) so it lasts quite a while. It doesn't foam a lot, you need to smash it between your palms and rub then apply it. I would recommend that you buy both the shampoo and conditioner but I tried the extra fancy conditioner in a tube and didn't rate it as much.I was looking forward to using this brand, mainly because other shampoo’s and conditioners for damaged hair, tend to be expensive. I thought ‘great’ its at a reasonably price. The packaging and delivery was good but overall the product failed to meet its criteria. The shampoo caused my hair to feel more dry. Huge disappointment!!Absolute gem of a product (both shampoo and conditioner). I can only compare it to olaplex when it comes to its hair saving abilities. (The only difference is that Olaplex fixes the inside structure of the hair and these products condition it on the outside). The perfect compliment to a healthy hair routine.
